A Day in Jo's Life: WFH, Home Workouts, Evening Routine & More
♡ Day in My Life ♡
Giving you an in depth breakdown on what my daily routine looks like this year! Spoiler alert, it’s pretty much the same as what my day to day looked like in 2020 (since nothing has really changed) but by now, I’ve pinned down a daily routine that keeps me as productive and fulfilled as possible. I’ll run through everything from working from home for my day job to my at home workout routine, and how I try to find a consistent work/life balance overall.
Every Sunday evening, I plan out my week ahead in both my planner and Gmail calendar - this includes meetings, workouts, to do lists, and more. This helps to ensure that each day will be as efficient and productive as possible, I can’t stand wasting time! Time is of the essence, especially when working from home where are there are constant distractions, so I time batch my calendar to help me compartmentalize my days and get in the zone. There are a few things I always incorporate into my day, like walks and taking my vitamins, to keep me happy and healthy. Here is what a typical day looks like for me!
The very first thing I do when I wake up (after hitting the snooze button a few times) is roll out of bed, put my contacts in and brush my teeth. I stroll into the living room and open up all of our blinds for natural sunlight and then I make myself a coffee or matcha in the kitchen (I’ve been loving my Starbucks copycat cold brew lately - click here for how to make!). I will sip on this while listening to one of my favorite podcasts and get ready for the day - I haven’t really been doing my hair or makeup so I’ll usually just change into leggings and a sweatshirt and do my morning skincare routine then I’m ready!
Connor and I have a rule that whoever is last out of bed has to make it, but for the most part it ends up being 50/50. We’ll usually make the bed once we’re ready for the day, before we head out for our daily walk.
By now it’s about 7:45 am and Connor and I will go on a 20-30 min walk in the mornings with our coffee and without our phones (one of us will usually bring their phone along but won’t check it). It feels so good to get in fresh air and movement outside before diving into work for the day.
Once we return from our walk, I go straight to my computer to start work. I’ll check Instagram and go through our S&T email to handle anything pressing before I start my full time job at Salesforce (which is truly the best company ever, I love my job!). Work consists of lots of email, virtual meetings and strategizing on projects. I’m in a sales role so my day to day is always different, but I do have a lot of autonomy which is one of my favorite aspects about my position. The luxury of self-governing my day to day is one of the key reasons why I’ve found so much success in being in sales; I love having the authority to plan my day and conduct business how I please!
I’ll work from about 8:30 am to 12 pm before taking a break. I don’t like long lunches during the work day, I’d rather just get everything done and power through my to do list so I can sign off earlier. So for lunch I’ll usually take a quick break to make food at home, go on a short walk & work on Sweat and Tell if need be. All I need is a few minutes to eat and unplug before I’m ready to get back to work!
I’m a snacker. I eat a lot of snacks throughout the day but try to keep it healthy! Lots of veggies, fruits, smoothies, crackers & hummus, popcorn and more. I will sometimes drink a second cup of coffee or matcha if I feel like I need a second wave of energy. I’ll check Instagram throughout the day and take some stories here and there when I have some free time in between meetings.
I try to wrap up Salesforce work around 5pm. Then I’ll FaceTime with Jacqs or we will hop on a conference call. We have two time blocks a week for formal conference calls but there are usually other pressing things that come up throughout the week that we need to chat about! We’re texting 24/7 too haha.
Since working from home (especially during the colder months), I’ve been doing my workouts at home right after I wrap up work. I actually prefer to workout in the morning but during the fall/winter, evening workouts at home have become more of my thing. I’ve done some outdoor studio workouts here and there, but majority of my workouts take place in my home gym. I like to mix it up - I’ll use obe fitness to stream classes, IGTV workouts with a variety of instructors, a spin class on my MYX fitness bike or just do my own workout with some weights. It truly looks different every day but I try to get in at least 40 minutes 4-5x per week!
Connor and I make dinner at home every night during the work week (Sunday night through Friday). This is our time to talk about our days and just hang out with one another. We grocery shop on Sundays so we have a ton of food stocked up for the week and have our meals planned out. We like to eat really clean during the week - meals are usually lots of fish, veggies, fruits, grains, and plant-based proteins. We rarely drink alcohol during the work week, it’s just not something we enjoy unless it’s on the weekend to be honest! But we do have dessert. every night - lots of dark chocolate and frozen peanut butter stuffed dates for me (click here for recipe).
Then I chill the fuck out! I truly look forward to my evening shower every single night. I’ll shower then throw on my PJ’s and do my nightly skincare routine. Evening skincare routine right now is Cocokind Rose Water Toner, Drunk Elephant Night Serum, Biossance Moisturizer and Farmacy Eye Dew. Sometimes I’ll mix in Tan Luxe tanning drops with my night serum too if I want to wake up with a bronze. After this, I’ll plop on the couch like a potato and fully indulge in watching TV like the Real Housewives (OC, NY and BH are my fav), the Bachelor, or something Connor and I are binging on Netflix at the moment. I’ll check Instagram too and go through DM’s, respond to comments, check email, etc.
My bedtime is around 10pm but I’ve had a difficult time going to sleep early lately. Even if I crawl into bed around then, I’ll usually need to do something to wind down before actually falling asleep. Lately, I’ve been playing Sudoku or reading a bit to help relax my racing mind - the book I’m reading right now is “Stillness is the Key” by Ryan Holiday.
Repeat.
That concludes a day in the life! I swear my life is usually more fun when we’re not in a global pandemic, but given the circumstance, this is what I’ve found to work the best for me in our new normal. If there’s one silver lining to the past year, it’s the pure joy in living a simpler, less complicated life - like going on a morning walk instead of commuting to work has had a significantly positive effect on me!
XO,
Jo
