S&T Review: MYX vs Peloton

S&T Review: MYX vs Peloton

We’ve reviewed several at home spin bikes on IG stories in the past but wanted to do a more in depth post specifically comparing the MYX Fitness vs Peloton spin bikes. For context, Jo has a MYX Fitness bike in her home gym that she uses frequently, and we’ve both rode on Pelotons as well.

All of our opinions and reviews stated below are our own. This post is not sponsored or affiliated by either party.

MYX Fitness

OVERVIEW:

Cost: Starts at $1,399 and goes up to $1,599 depending on the bike and package you get. There are only two bike options to choose from. Monthly subscription cost starts at $39/month. Free shipping (see code below that we found on their website for you!). Cost includes delivery and assembly.

What’s included (other than the bike): The basic option comes with a heart rate monitor that connects to the bike and tracks in real time. The plus option includes a 6-piece weight set with a kettlebell, exercise mat, resistance band, foam roller and large mat for under the bike.

Features: Swiveling touch screen so you can turn it for off-the-bike workouts as well. As we mentioned above, it comes with a heart rate monitor (optional for your workouts) which can track your entire workout. Noise adjustment on both instructor and music so you can set it to your preference which we love.

Workout: More personal based fitness rather than competitive; there is no leaderboard so you aren’t competing against other people in the class. No live classes.

Trainers: The trainers are positive and motivating but not overly in your face. They seem more mellow than other virtual spin instructors so this really depends on your preference. You definitely aren’t going to get yelling, LFG instructors.

Other: The music is decent but sometimes we prefer to play our own music in the background because we are picky (just a personal preference). Can use either the shoes baskets with regular sneakers or spin shoes - I wear my Tiem spin shoes. Highly recommend then.

TLDR; PROS AND CONS:

Pros: This bike is significantly more affordable. Since there are only two bikes to choose from, the plus option includes everything you could possibly need while only being $200 more. This is a great bike if you like to spin but aren’t a die hard biker.

Cons: It doesn’t have the cult following like Peloton does. There is a social aspect around Peloton and getting to ride with (or against) other avid spinners which is a make or break it to some people.

Peloton

OVERVIEW:

Cost: Starts at $1,495 and goes up to $2,945 depending on the bike and package you get. Monthly subscription cost starts at $39/month. Free shipping. Cost includes delivery and assembly.

What’s included (other than the bike): The basic bike does not come with any accessories like weights, shoes, heart rate monitor or mats. You need to purchase one of the upgraded options for these benefits.

Features: Swiveling touch screen so you can turn it for off-the-bike workouts. Comes with heart rate monitor for some of the more deluxe bike options.

Workout: The peloton workout classes are as close to an in studio experience as we can imagine. The energy, motivation and sweat factor are all 10/10 considering that you’re riding in your living room or in your home office.

Trainers: More personal fitness based rather than competitive ie no leaderboard (could be a pro or con depending on your preference) Noise adjustment on both instructor and music which I love

Other: You cannot use Tiem spin shoes. Try risk free for 30 days.

TLDR; PROS AND CONS:

Pros: This bike is the most elite in at home spin bikes and for good reason. If you are an avid biker and know that you will be spinning multiple times per week than this can be a great option. It is definitely an investment but everyone we know who has one justifies the cost because they no longer feel the need to pay for a spin or studio membership. There is a social aspect around Peloton and getting to ride with (or against) other people. The peloton classes are motivating and as close to an in person workout as possible in our opinion.

Cons: As we’ve mentioned above, the main disadvantage is really the cost; this bike is expensive. Tiem spin shoes don’t work to clip in (which we know a lot of you also have) so you have to purchase new shoes that will work with the bike which is another expense.

Both options offer a financing option if you are interested in investing in an at home bike but don’t want to pay the upfront cost. The monthly payments are lower than most gym memberships so if you think you will use it then it is a great investment!
